The truth is that by sitting with what we’re feeling makes us stronger. This gives away our power to what we are feeling, and we then become slaves to our emotions.

As children we are taught to fear our emotions, to push them down, aside, away… anywhere but here, maybe we’ll deal with this later, we were taught. Visit our website for information.Overcoming emotional turmoil is about knowing that we are stronger than our emotions.

This allows you to be more present with yourself. By understanding your emotions, you can connect with them, acknowledge them and are better able to process them.

These emotions are to be expected, but by investing a little time in caring for ourselves, we can mitigate against undue emotional turmoil. The new levels of uncertainty can also create helplessness and even hopelessness as the scaffolding of knowledge, competence, and routine fall away. This creates anxiety and adds to the exhaustion we feel. However, in this new climate doctors do not readily have the answers they seek and the whole system seems to be in a constant sense of flux and change. We work with guidelines and protocols we audit and adapt to new evidence as it develops. Doctors are also used to certainty and to have answers readily to hand. Doctors, of course, are adept to change (after all we have to change jobs, rotas, teams, IT systems, and much more throughout our training), but this level of change is unprecedented and unwanted.
